Bangladesh grows different variety of betel leaf. The most demandable betel leaf are sweet betel leaf (misti paan) & hot betel leaf (Zhal paan). Fresh betel leaves (paan) are exported by air shipment from Bangladesh under special packing.

The betel leaf is cultivated in most of South and Southeast Asia. Since it is a creeper, it needs a compatible tree or a long pole for support.
